My name is Mrs. Aishan Lu Yokoo. I have taught second grade, first grade and third grade for a total of 14 years. Some exciting news, my eight year old is in third grade here at KEY! Time flies and new wonderful memories are being made! I am happy to be back with the opportunity to work with all the teachers, students, and parents at such a great and flourishing environment like KEY Academy! I am the testing coordinator/teacher support this year. I look forward to a great year! One very important thing I would like to stress is attendance, if students are in school, then they are given the chance to learn, but if they are not present then they have missed out on an opportunity to learn and grow. I know the struggles in getting a child to school, but it will only benefit them and that is what we want, the best for our child. I will look forward to and expect lots of hard work and dedication from teachers, students, and parents, because with everyone's participation we will have a successful year!

COVID-19 Letter update

During a time of concern and lots of unknowns, I want to let you know KEY is here to support you! I hope everybody is staying safe and working hard to get work done. Here are the spelling and vocabulary words for this week. Sorry it is a day late, I was out yesterday due to illness. Please go over words and check their homework.

Also, please look for tests that were passed back today and possibly tomorrow.

*Usernames and passwords were passed out last week for both IXL and Lets Go Learn, have students go on and practice for the recommended 1-2 hrs. or more.

Dear Parents,

Here are the spelling and vocabulary words for the week. Spelling are review words and our vocabulary words are still the same, we will be finishing our lesson this week. Please keep in mind and look for tests that are passed back to your children during the beginning of the week, they usually get a spelling, math, and reading test by Monday, like today. Be sure to take a look and sign them and go over any questions students are still struggling with. Students will need practice throughout the year on everything they have learned.

Also, this Thursday I will be sending home usernames and passwords for IXL.com and letsgolearn.com so your child can practice skills needed to help catch up or extra challenging skills to help them pull ahead.

Here are the new spelling words for this week, our schedule is the following for spelling ONLY:

Monday- ABC Order

Tuesday- First 10 words, write a sentence using each word

Wednesday- Using the rest of the words, write sentences using each word

Thursday- Write a paragraph or short story using 5 of our spelling words (student choice)

Friday-NO HOMEWORK

Here are the new spelling words for the week. Spelling homework will be the same as last week. The normal spelling schedule will resume next week because it is a normal school week. Also, please ask your child to let you see their tests I passed back today that they took last Friday. Any grades below a C will need a parent signature to verify that you viewed it. Dear Parents,

Good afternoon! Here are the spelling and vocabulary words for the week that your child will be having homework on. Spelling homework schedule will be a little different this week and next week since we have four day weeks. Monday is ABC Order, Tuesday and Wednesday spelling homework will be combined, so students will have to finish all 18 sentences with their 18 words on Wednesday night for homework, then Thursday will be pick 5 words and write a short story.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Welcome to 3rd Grade!!

Dear Parents,

My name is Mrs. Aishan Lu Yokoo, I am your child's 3rd grade teacher. This will be my 4th year at KEY teaching 3rd grade. I am so excited to start this new year with your wonderful child in my class! I missed teaching over the summer, but enjoyed my time off with my child whom has just begun Kindergarten. We had lots of fun time and took him camping for the first time. He had lots of fun, but I realized that I really enjoy our modern day luxuries, like a shower and a nice comfortable bed!

This first week will be comfortable with some light homework. Your child will be learning/getting used to our classroom rules and procedures. Please remind your child about appropriate behavior for learning in the classroom and playing outside. I will be passing out and posting the regular homework schedule and classroom supplies. Please note, if your child has brought in supplies you do not need to purchase more this week. Some supplies will need to be replenished throughout the year(pencils and dry erase markers seem to run out fast).

We want a smooth, enjoyable, and safe year. There will be some projects to work on with presentations, reading comprehension and writing explanations will be a big focus. Being able to articulate one's thoughts to answer questions after reading a non-fiction story is important to your child's success in 3rd grade and on. In math it is crucial that your child has the basic foundations like adding and subtracting because we will be working on multiplication, fractions, area, perimeter, and word problems involving all of these topics.
