My name is Jessica Prunty and I am one of the 5th grade teacher at KEY Academy. This will be my 9th year teaching 5th grade at KEY and I am so excited to work with this fantastic group of students and the wonderful staff this year! I graduated from Cal State East Bay with my BA in Human Development in 2013 and also received my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from the same school in 2014. In my spare time, I love to read, spend time with my friends and family, and play with my dog.

Field Trip!

Both 5th grade classes are going on a field trip to the Lawrence Hall of Science on Wednesday January 20th. We need parent drivers, if you are interested in driving and chaperoning please indicate that on your student's permission slip and send it back to school. If you have any questions you can email me at [email protected] or talk to me in person at school.

Thank you!

Reading Log and Spelling Homework

I just wanted to remind all parents and students that spelling homework is given out Monday and is due Friday. Students should be practicing their spelling words every day and be prepared for their spelling test that happens every Friday.

Reading logs are given out on Monday and they are due the following Monday. Students must read for a minimum of 30 minutes every day Monday-Friday, log their book and how many minutes they read, and answer one question about their reading. Reading logs must be returned signed by a parent or guardian.

Thank you!

We planted lima bean seeds in class today to help us learn about the parts of a plant and more about plant biology. We hope they grow!

IXL over Winter Break

I just wanted to remind parents and students that IXL is a great computer program for students to practice Math and Language Arts! I would love for them to practice over the Winter Break. It will help them in Math if they go on and practice Decimals, as we will be starting a chapter on Decimal Division when we get back. Students should have their logins and passwords, but if not feel free to email me and I can get that to you.

Enjoy your holiday break!

Winter Break Homework

Over the Winter Break, the students have a few small assignments to complete. The first assignment is a reading log. It is slightly different from their normal reading log. They must read for 20 minutes 10 days over the break and fill in their reading log.

Second is division practice. When we get back from Winter Break we are starting a chapter on decimal division, and I want them to practice division a little bit over the break. This is only one page front and back. It should not be anything they have never seen before.

The last assignment is a take home science test. They should finish reading Chapter 2 if they have not already, and then take their science test. It is open book and open note, they may use either their notes or their book to complete this assignment.

That is all the homework the students have over the break. If they do not wait until the last minute, they should be able to complete all 3 assignments quickly and still have time to relax over the break :)

I hope you all have a relaxing and fun break! Happy holidays!

Chapter 2 Math Test

We are having our Chapter 2 Math Test tomorrow, Friday October 23. Students will bring home a practice test that they have completed in class to study. Please make sure your student studies for their math test!

First Writing Assignment

We are starting our first writing assignment in class this week! It will be done mostly in class, but some will be done at home if the students do not finish in class. Their story can be about anything they want, but it must incorporate the image of a house I have shown them as their setting. I am attaching the rubric that I will use to grade their short stories.

Walk-a-Thon is happening this Friday October 16th at the Hayward campus! Join us and support your student and our school at this fun fundraiser! Also because this is an all day event, spelling and reading tests will happen on Thursday this week. Spelling homework is also due Thursday.
