Home

My name is Jessica Prunty and I am one of the 5th grade teacher at KEY Academy. This will be my 9th year teaching 5th grade at KEY and I am so excited to work with this fantastic group of students and the wonderful staff this year! I graduated from Cal State East Bay with my BA in Human Development in 2013 and also received my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from the same school in 2014. In my spare time, I love to read, spend time with my friends and family, and play with my dog.

October Book Orders

October Book Orders went home this afternoon. They are due next Monday, October 17th. Our code to order online is NDFZN if you'd like to order online.

Narrative Writing

We are beginning our first writing unit this week with Narrative Writing. Students will be writing a made up story using a picture for inspiration for their setting. The image is of a spooky house. So far we have learned about using descriptive detail and about using dialogue; we will be incorporating those elements of writing into our narratives. Most will be written in class, but some may need to be done at home for homework as we move along in our unit.

Division video

Tomorrow we will be learning the "traditional" method for long division. Here is a great video that students can watch at home that covers dividing by both one digit and two digit divisors. I will be teaching division with two digit divisors tomorrow in class.

Science Test

Students will have their test on Chapter 2 of Science tomorrow September 29. They will bring their books and study guides home to study.

Today we asked the question "What will happen to celery in colored water after 24 and 48 hours." Ask your student what their hypothesis is!

Math Chapter 2

We took our Chapter 1 Math Test yesterday, and as a whole the class did very well; I am very proud of the class! We will be starting Chapter 2 in math next week. Chapter 2 is all about division. Students should continue to work on and practice their multiplication facts at home, because multiplication and division are very closely related!

Chuck E. Cheese Fundraiser

We will be having a fundraiser on Wednesday, September 21 at Chuck E. Cheese in Hayward from 4-8 pm. Hope to see you all there!!

Chapter 1 Math and Social Studies Tests

We will be wrapping up Chapter 1 in Math and Chapter 1 in Social Studies next week. Students will have a Social Studies "Scavenger Hunt" (study guide) to complete in class and for homework to help them study for their Social Studies Test. They will get the study guide Monday and the test will be Tuesday.

We have one more Math lesson before the Chapter 1 Test; we will spend Tuesday in class taking and going over a practice test. Tuesday for homework they will have the practice test again to take home and complete, they can also bring their books home to study. Wednesday We will take the Chapter 1 Math Test.

If you have any questions please feel free to email me or come talk to me at school!

Illuminate Parent Access

I just wanted to remind you all that you as parents have access to the students grades and how they are progressing in the classroom. If you go to the homepage of our school website, located under the Parents tab is a link that says Parent Portal. If you click on that it will take you to Illuminate, the website we use to record student grades. You can create an account using your parent access code and log in to view your student's grades. I gave out parent access codes at Back to School Night, but if you need yours, please feel free to send me an email and I'd be happy to get that for you.

Thank you and have a great weekend!
