Thank you!

Let's Go Learn and Illuminate

Students have finished Let's Go Learn testing on the computers for the Fall. On Let's Go Learn they can now get on the Edge program and work on lessons designed for them and their needs specifically. I am strongly encouraging students to work on the Edge program at home so that they can improve on their Let's Go Learn test in the Winter.

Today I also passed out access to the Illuminate parent portal so that parents can check student grades at home. If you have any trouble with the parent portal or any questions about your student's grades, please email me and let me know.

Division Resources

We have started Chapter 2 of Math which is about Division. I wanted to give you some videos that help explain it, and other resources you can use to help your student.

Long Division Explanation

Long Division Song

Students can also use IXL to work on division, there are gold stars next to all the skills we are currently working on in class in Math, Language Arts, and Science on IXL.

Think-Central is also a great resource to review the Math lessons I have taught. When students log in, they will see three boxes. They should click on My Library. When they get there, if they want to review the Math video for the day, they can click on Interactive Student Edition. If they need the homework, they can click on the Practice Book icon and print the homework. They can also find the Student Edition, which is the textbook, and Math on the Spot Videos show examples of the problems being solved.

Please let me know if your student has trouble logging in, or has lost their login paper and I'll be happy to help.

Thank you for your support!

Chuck E. Cheese Fundraiser

Please join us for our Chuck E. Cheese fundraiser tonight (September 19)! Chuck E. Cheese is located at 24039 Hesperian Blvd. Hayward, CA 94545. The fundraiser will go until 8pm. I hope to see you all there!

Review Tests

When the students take a Review Test for Math home for homework, I grade is based only on completion. If they completed it to the best of their abilities and did every problem, I will stamp it or put a star and they will get full credit for the homework assignment. If the students did not, I will indicate on their paper that it is incomplete and they will receive partial credit depending on how much they completed.

I do not grade every question on the Review Test because we go over it in class before I assign it, it is simply extra practice. When it goes home in the Friday Folder, if they receive a stamp or a star on it, they receive full credit.

Math Extra Credit

I put together a Math packet for the students to help them study for their Math Test on Tuesday. I am not mandating that they complete it, but I strongly suggest that they do it over the weekend to help them study. It is due Monday. Students will also get a study guide Monday for homework. They will get extra credit for completing the packet.

Enjoy your weekend!

Chapter 1 Math Test

We will be having our Chapter 1 Math Test on Tuesday, September 18th. Chapter 1 has been about Place Value, Multiplication, and Expressions. We have 4 more lessons to cover this week, but it is important that students continue to practice skills at home that are difficult for them.

Multiplying by 1 digit and 2 digit numbers will be a very important skill in 5th grade, so if your student is struggling with that, please encourage them to practice at home. Some resources for additional practice are:

ThinkCentral: This is our Math curriculum website. I sent home a paper with student's usernames and passwords a couple weeks ago in their Friday Folders. IF they would like to re-watch any lesson they missed or struggled with, they can click Interactive Student Edition and watch the lesson as many times as necessary.

IXL: The skills I want students to practice will appear with a star next to them in the 5th Grade Math section when they sign in to IXL. If they get a problem wrong, please encourage them to read the explanation of how they got it wrong.

Please feel free to email me with any questions regarding their upcoming Math test or anything else.

Thanks!

Ms. Jessica

Social Studies Chapter 1 Test

We will have our first Social Studies Test Monday, September 10th. The students have a study guide that they will bring home to study.

Online Programs Login

I am sending usernames and passwords to all of the online curriculum home in students Friday Folders today. They can go on IXL right now and work on skills they may be struggling with. I haven't assigned anything for Social Studies or Science yet, but hey can also get on ThinkCentral and look around to see what is available to them. As soon as computer lab testing is done, students can also go practice on Let's Go Learn.

Weekly Homework and Agenda

Starting next week (August 27th) students will have Math, Spelling and Reading Homework most nights. Students will have a Reading Log every day Monday-Friday. Reading Logs are due on Mondays.

Spelling Homework is due every Friday. Students get their new spelling words every Monday.

Every night, students should be bringing home their agenda and having a parent initial in the box so that I know that somebody at home is aware of their homework. Agendas are due Mondays with Reading Logs.
