Good afternoon,

 

I hope everybody had a restful and enjoyable time with their families over the holidays, I am so glad to have your students back in class with me!

 

This week in Language Arts we are working on monitoring understanding and clarifying when we have questions, words that end in -ed and ing, identifying text and graphic features, and the prefix mal- and the suffix -ure.

 

In Math, we are beginning Chapter 5, which is decimal division. Today for homework the students have a division review worksheet. It's important for students to review decimal place value as well as their division facts for this chapter. If your student needs extra practice, please let me know and I can assign them IXL skills to work on.

 

We are starting the lesson on Decomposers in Science. 

 

There are some things that our class as a whole have been struggling with in writing. Our class has some goals for writing that I'd like to let you know about so you can remind your students at home when they are writing:

 

Students will capitalize the beginning of sentences and proper nouns.

Students will end sentences with punctuation.

Students will give a description of key events in their writing.

Students will cite text evidence when doing informational writing, or reading comprehension questions.

 

Movie Day fliers have gone home today. Movie Day is Friday, January 20^th from 1:00-3:15, the movie is Meet the Robinsons. It is optional for students to stay, if your student does not want to watch the movie, they should be picked up at 12:45. Snacks can be preordered for $2.00, please send your student with exact change. Green Movie Day fliers need to be returned by this Friday, January 13th.
