Week of March 7th

Good morning!

This week, we are taking the Chapter 7 Math Test, and beginning Chapter 8 in Math. Chapter 8 is about dividing fractions. Chapter 8 is a short chapter. This week in ELA we are working on Theme, which is a challenging, yet important concept for students. Theme is the lesson the author is teaching the reader about life in a story. Theme comes up a lot on the state test, so it's important that we practice that before then. The student's spelling words this week are words from different languages, and we are also working on how to properly write titles.

This week on Tuesday, the Book Mobile is coming to visit our school. Students will be able to check out books to read for the month. Half of the school goes to the Book Mobile on Tuesday; the other half of the school will go later in the month. I am going to encourage students to get at least one book that is a chapter book, and the other book can be their choice. Book Mobile books stay in the classroom and are switched out once a month.

March is Literacy Month, so we are focusing on reading in the month of March. Students will be given a book report this week to complete on a chapter book of their choice. Thie book report is due next Friday, March 18th, so please keep an eye out for your student to bring that home.
