Week of February 7th

Good afternoon!

This week is going to be a busy one in 5th grade! We are starting a state report project. Students will randomly pick a state and research it in class. The assignment is in Google Classroom, and we will be working on it in class. The only time students should need to work on it at home is if they miss a day of instruction or if they do not finish it in class. We will be working on this throughout Quarter 3. When the project has a due date, I will let you know.

Here's what we're learning this week:

6.8 Subtracting Mixed Numbers with Renaming. This is a tricky lesson. Here's a video to help:

6.9 Patterns with Fractions

6.10 Problem Solving: Addition and Subtraction

6.11 Use Properties of Addition

In Social Studies, we will be having our test on Lesson 4 on Wednesday.

In Language Arts we are working on first person point of view, literary devices, spelling words with -ed and -ing endings. We are also working on Adverbs. Here's our story for the week:

IXL Practice:
Math: L.20, L.21, L,22, L,23
ELA: PP.3, PP.5, G.1

Lastly, we have a new student in class, so our class number is up to 25. I will send an updated Valentine's name list for students to bring home today in case they want to bring Valentine cards for their classmates on the 14th.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you,
