MR. JEAN-THIERRY MENDIOLA 7TH GRADE HISTORY AND ENGLISH

Greetings to all the wonderful families at Key Academy Charter School!

My name is Jean-Thierry Mendiola, and it is my first year teaching here. My academic life began with a B.A. degree in Religious Studies from U.C. Berkeley, and a minor in Philosophy. I became a K-8 music teacher shortly thereafter. I taught at St. Brigid Catholic School for 9 years, and then, after earning my Multiple Subject Credential, I began teaching middle school History and Religion at St. Felicitas Catholic School in San Leandro. I was there for 11 years, before spending one year at the Oakland Military Institute teaching 7th English. I am very excited to be teaching here and I have already met some terrific students and families.

A little bit about myself...
I am an avid book collector with a large library of over 1,000 books. My library is 80% non-fiction (mostly History, Philosophy, World Religions, and Music), but I also have a lot of classic literature and poetry. I love to bring my books into class to read to the students. My other hobbies include playing classical piano, guitar, cello, and drums. I am also a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, and a semi-retired kickboxer. I look forward to meeting you all and having an excellent year ahead!
