October FUN
This month is all about FUN FUN FUN! We are kicking off our FUN RUN and we are asking all families to register and donate for our school! Please if you have not yet, register your child and send to as many people as you can for donations to our school. The fun run is on October 11th and will be a day of fun and lots of school spirit. We are asking all 4th graders to wear BLUE, GREY OR YELLOW this day for our school spirit!
We finished our iready testing and I have met with all my students to talk about their scores and what we will work on next. Many students are determined to get their scores up with lots of learning and practice. I noticed many students are struggling in reading comprehension, vocabulary meaning and understanding and non fiction text with comprehension. Continue to read at home every night with your child. Ask questions about the story as they or you read through. We are diving into the PLOT of a story this month a lot and finding many different ways figurative language is used within our weekly stories.
The students love finding metaphors and similes within the paragraphs.
I also saw a dip in scores with the iready math in geometry and algebraic numbers and thinking. Keep working on shapes, 3D shapes, lines and angels at home as we can really work together to bring their scores up.
This month is a big chunk of multiplication and the kids are really doing their best to see which property is easiest for them to find their product.
This month we are also asking for a $5 optional basket donation for our Fall Festival. Please if you are able cash would be great for our 4th grade class to put together a nice basket for the fall festival which will be October 25th. Donations are due by October 11th.
Parents please be on the look out for any lost and found items as our lost and found area is growing. Just a reminder for Homework club students that this is a time to have extended learning through their homework and not a place to be goofing around. Please remind your child that their job at school to learn and get a great education, not for silliness when its not called for.
Science has been amazing learning all about plants and how they protect themselves through bark, spines and thorns. Our Social studies is going to be great this month with learning about California Natives and their land. I have many students very excited about this unit and I can't wait to teach them all about it.
If you have any questions please let me know. I look forward meeting with you all at the end of the month for parent, student and teacher conferences. October 30 and 31st are parent teacher conferences (also minimum days) There will be a sign up sheet on Class DOJO very soon.
Thank you
