            Students gave excellent presentations last week of their Disaster Preparedness kits.  This project was a combination of our current ELA unit, “Dealing with Disaster”, and our science unit on plate tectonics.  There are two major faults in the Bay Area, the Hayward Fault and the San Andreas Fault.  We will be prepared with our disaster kits if we have an earthquake.

Dear Parents and Students:

            For English Language Arts, we are reading about the tsunami that devastated Indonesia in 2004.  For science, we are learning about plate tectonics, which cause earthquakes and tsunamis.  Our current project, creating a Disaster Preparedness Kit, will help us to be prepared in the event of a disaster.  The kits are due next Monday.  Class presentations will be done next Monday through Friday, until each student has had an opportunity to present.

            Happy New Year!  We have high hopes for 2022 and we’re meeting them with vigor and enthusiasm.  For ELA, we’ve read many stories, learned to identify main idea and theme, and are now working to further improve reading as well as writing skills.  In math, we’ve learned to add and subtract fractions and decimals, how to convert fractions to percent and decimals, and are now reviewing those skills as well as learning to solve algebraic equations.  In Room 20, we’re on a roll!
