Field Trip to Chabot Space and Science Center

Dear Parents,

Ms. Robin and the students of Room 18 are excited to announce our field trip to the Chabot Space and Science Center!

On Wednesday December 12, a chartered bus will arrive at KEY at 8:30 and take us to the center, where we will participate in a workshop called, Cosmic Quest.  Under the guidance of Chabot "scientists", students will explore the Milky Way galaxy, search the Universe for other galaxies, and discover where scientists believe life may exist.

We will also enjoy a planetarium show, and then get to explore the many interactiveexhibits throughout the center.

The regular cost for admission only is $15 dollars for students and $18 dollars for adults.  HOWEVER, the total donation for this field trip, which includes transportation, admission, a workshop, and the planetarium show, is only $20 per student, and chaperones are free.

Please consider joining us on this very fun trip.  We need 6 chaperones.  This field trip is always one of the highlights of the school year!

Welcome

Welcome to KEY Academy.  I am Robin Smith, the 6th grade teacher in Room 18.  We are off to a great start!

I have been teaching for 25 years and still love it as much as I did that first day in the classroom.  I have taught in Castro Valley, Hayward, Oakland, Alameda, and Fremont.  I started in kindergarten, and worked up to high school, and 6th grade is my favorite.

For language arts, the theme of the first unit in our textbook, California Collections, is Facing Fear.  We're reading stories in which the main character had to face a fear.

For math students are learning to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions and decimal numbers.

For Earth science, students are learning about the solar system.

For history, students are learning about Early Humans and the Rise of Civilization.
